Throughout the year we have worked on engineering projects that had children problem solving, building and having fun. Take a look at a selection of them below.
3D shapes
We learned how to construct 3D shapes using materials we had in the classroom. This took a bit of trial and error but when we succeeded we were thrilled!
The Science of Strong Shapes
Using only one piece of paper the children had to design the strongest bridge they could. After investigating some bridge designs we discovered the strength of triangles and when we folded the same piece of paper in triangles (like a fan) the bridges could hold 20+ colouring pencils.
Rotation of the Earth Around the Sun
The children worked together to construct models of the earth's rotation around the sun and the moons rotation around the earth.
St. Brigid's Crosses
Every year one of the biggest engineering and construction projects we undertake is the making of St. Brigid's Crosses. This year we learned a new way to hold the final reed in place! The older more experienced children support the younger children to learn this wonderful skill.
