A school in Drummond dates back to 1824 when the teacher Patrick O’Keefe ran the school in ‘an old chapel lent’. The average attendance at that time was 30 boys and 16 girls. This school was located around the stage area of the present parish hall. At this time Drummond was a pay school in which the Master received a small stipend from the children. Master received one penny per week, sometimes more, sometimes less and out of that he had to keep the school house, provide some books, heating etc. By 1835 there were two teachers and the average attendance had increased.
